Camp Daggett Staff

Brent Marlatt, Executive Director
Brent was raised in the buzzing metropolis of Atlanta… Michigan, that is! He spent his college days in “da” U.P. at Lake Superior State University where in 4 ½ years he earned degrees in Parks & Recreation Management, Natural Resources Technology, and Water Quality Technology. Since entering the workforce, Brent has dedicated just over 17 years of his life in the human services field catering to the needs of special populations through team building programs in wilderness and recreational settings. For the past 7 years he has had the honor of working at Camp Daggett as the Adventure Education Director. Brent focused on planting seeds for change and honing a myriad of teamwork skills to help enhance team productivity and togetherness. In December of 2007, Brent accepted the position as Executive Director of operations at Camp Daggett where he strives to help make the difference in our communities.

John Guirey, Summer Camp Director
John has been the Summer Camp Director since 1992. Like directors before him, John is an educator, teaching art at Charlevoix High School. Working at Daggett while in college inspired John to pursue his teaching degree, and since then, he has earned a master’s degree in Educational Administration.

Julie Guirey, Summer Camp Registrar
Both John and his wife Julie are connected to Camp Daggett from having worked as counselors and area directors in the early 80’s and 90’s. Julie Guirey manages camper registration throughout the year, and in the summer, she handles the purchasing of supplies, the budget, and the operation of the Camp Store.

Charity Patten, Assistant Summer Camp Director
Charity has been involved with camp since she was eight years old, her first summer as a camper. Charity has also devoted her life to working with children, first as a summer staff member throughout the years and now as a kindergarten teacher in the East Jordan school district.

Jennifer Tarquini, Administrative Assistant
Jennifer Tarquini grew up in Grand Blanc, Michigan. She attended Michigan State University, and graduated in 2005 with a major in English and a minor in Psychology. Fortunately, she came across Camp Daggett in 2003 at a job fair at MSU. She was hired that year as a counselor for the Potawatomi cabin. She returned as a counselor for that cabin in 2004, and then worked as the Canoeing Area Director in 2005. From 2006 to 2009, she worked during the summers as one of John Guirey’s assistant directors, and specifically oversaw the leadership training programs for the service aides, program aides, and counselors-in-training. In December of 2009, she became Camp Daggett's Administrative Assistant. Jennifer currently lives in Petoskey, Michigan with her husband, Mark, whom she met at camp in 2003. They were married in Mac Hall in May of 2008.

Karen Marietti, Adventure Center Director
Karen joined the Camp Daggett family in 2004. As an avid outdoor enthusiast and traveler, Karen can often be found hiking the trails, kayaking the pristine waterways of Michigan or off on an exciting adventure somewhere around the world. Her infectious laugh and smile make her a welcoming presence to all who visit Camp Daggett and the Adventure Center.

Drew Baar, Assistant Adventure Center Director
Drew joined the Camp Daggett family in 2008. Drew’s experience and enthusiasm are validated in every program through participant evaluations where he always receives high praises. When not at work, he spends his time playing in a band and enjoying the many adventures of the outdoors.

Edward Leverenz, Facilities Rental Manager
